INTRO TO MOTORSPORTS
JULY 28, 2024
DAY 1
It was a great day for our 2024 Teen Race camp- Intro To Motorsports session kickoff.
We would like to welcome our 11 campers.
Aaron Kaminsky, Cole Parker, Dane Luzzi, Dutch Goodman, Hendrix McCarthy, Hunter Koch, Jack Luzzi, Jamie Prince, Josiah Castro, Julian Serafino, and Lily Wolk!
The day was kicked off with a welcome and orientation in one of our newly completed Lofts where parents and campers were able to see our members driving the track out on the balcony and look at the vehicles the campers will be driving at the karting track, skid pad and on the North course. A quick tour of the MMC campus on the golf karts followed and then it was back to the Loft for lunch. After lunch we headed to the Kartrite for Team Building events doing field day activities. It was warm but the campers stuck it out and showed some good competition with the tug of war and sac race. In the late afternoon some campers went to the water park to cool off, a few headed to the gym for a quick workout, or others chose to get settled in their hotel room. The group then headed over to the MMC Clubhouse Dining Room for dinner where they had homemade pizza, salad, chicken, steak and fries with soft serve ice cream, cookies, or brownies for dessert.
Campers received their swag bags and met the lead instructors Stuart and Bryan and our Instructor Assistance, Jack, Johnny, and Colin. Formal introductions will take place tomorrow morning along with a rundown of the days driving lesson. The evening was spent at the waterpark for a quick waterslide run, arcade and at the fire pit eating s’mores. Everyone headed to their rooms around 9:15 in preparation for a full day at the MMC Track.

DAY 2
It was a spectacular day two for the campers!
The team spend their time up at the karting track working on basic skills- track acclimation, visual referencing, side by side driving and drifting karts for car control purposes. In the afternoon, the campers settled nicely into navigating the track and utilizing the skills they practiced in the morning lessons with open lapping on the karting track. All campers received their driving profile for the day from the lead instructors to review while traveling back to the hotel. Once at the hotel some campers made their way to the waterpark and others relaxed and showered before heading to Bixby’s for a casual dinner. The evening was spent at the arcade, wiffle ball and video games in the campers meeting room. Day 3 will be another driving packed day learning new skills. Much to the campers dismay we do not share the lesson plans for the next day until it is revealed after breakfast with the morning kickoff.

DAY 3
Day 3 at MMC for our Teen Race campers was an amazing day! The campers split their time between the Skid pad in the Sodi Go-Karts and in the Minis on the North course with an instructor right-seating.
At the skid pad, campers worked on race craft and track learning. This was a new circuit with corners and techniques that they had never seen, so it was a lesson on adapting to new circuits and conditions with the ground being dry and wet. The campers were pitted directly against each other in a side-by-side race position.
In the Minis on the MMC north course track the goal was car orientation. Getting the campers comfortable with driving a full-scale car and understanding the differences and the tools at their disposal. The campers were put to the test in a timed autocross in our high-speed kart track autocross. They were all pleased with the new skills and are a little hesitant in seeing the driving profiles tomorrow morning.
It was Italian Night at the Club House for dinner; spaghetti and meatballs, Chicken Parmesan, Pesto Rigatoni, Eggplant Parmesan, Broccoli Rabe and Caesar or Garden salad filled the buffet. Cannoli Cones, Tiramisu and soft service ice cream was enjoyed for dessert.
The group headed back to the hotel to get a quick waterpark visit in, exercise in the gym or some downtime in their room. We all got together for s’mores by the fire pit with some football toss and kickball. The group finished off the evening in the game room with X-box. Some campers went to bed early hoping to get extra sleep in preparation for tomorrow new driving challenges. They all had a full day of activity!

DAY 4
The camps had a fantastic day! The skies opened with some heavy rain a couple times throughout the early and late afternoon, but thankfully the rain moved past quickly. Thank you Events and Track Ops team for setting up the tents!!
Today the campers started off with reaction time training, one of the many key athletic impulses in motorsports. The lead instructors ran everyone through three stations that tested their accuracy, precision, and speed as well as their reaction times! Next the group did timed driver changes, an extremely important part of endurance racing. Each pair took turns trying to loosen and unbuckle the belts, jump out and help the next person buckle in the shortest possible time. We then took the minis on our south course. This was their first real ability to open the cars up on a full course. Another timed event, this tested their eyes and their ability to look far enough up ahead to keep up with the car and their inputs. Lastly, the campers did some drag race. Pitting everyone against each other bracket style. This was to get the competitive juices flowing for tomorrow!
Dinner was at the Clubhouse with a wonderful served dinner which included a choice between garden or Caesar salad, Grilled NY Streak Strip, Tagliatelle Pasta, Roasted half chicken and for dessert a Chocolate Lava Cake or Whipped cream and strawberries. After dinner, the campers received their driving profiles from the day’s activities. In the evening, many campers made their way down to the arcade to do the ropes course, a few arcade games and toss the football around. It is an early rise on Thursday with room checkouts at 7:45 and loading their luggage and getting to the clubhouse by 8:15 am. It will be another full day with warm sunny weather forecasted.
Enjoy your day and we look forward to seeing you at the awards ceremony at 4:15 in the Clubhouse!
